Each level is effectively a series of simple puzzles where Batman, Robin and the other playable heroes have to work their way past each obstacle en-route to the level’s conclusion. There’s nothing wrong with the minute-by-minute gameplay, which sticks to the tried and tested formula laid down by Lego Batman 1 and 2.

Put it down to a failure to introduce something fresh and unexpected, or to a structure that doesn’t leave as much room for free play, but it’s the first major Lego game in years that doesn’t feel like an essential family game. Yet while Lego Batman 3 is fantastic fun, it’s also slightly less satisfying than its predecessors. TT Games’ fourth Lego superhero opus could have been its best, fixing the few complaints fans had about Lego Batman 2 and boasting some of the strongest levels in the series.

No matter which camp you fall into, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is the most fun and feature-packed LEGO game to date.Available on Xbox One, PS4 (reviewed), Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, PC Ultimately, the game attempts to speak to two audiences simultaneously: younger player who are down for anything LEGO, as well as older comics fans who are looking to dig deep into the DC Universe’s characters and lore. When the Justice League Watchtower gets overtaken by the Joker, for instance, you’ll destroy the outer defenses with your Batwing. The game features a ton of collectibles, as well as plenty of vehicles to commandeer. The game includes a variety of hubs, ranging from the Batcave and the Justice League Watchtower to… well, the moon and beyond.
As the title implies, players will be going beyond Gotham City. It’s a virtual A-to-Z of DC characters – a LEGO tour de force of the DC canon.īeyond Gotham sees the caped crusader join forces with DC heroes to counter the villainous Brainiac’s plan to shrink the world and add it to his collection of miniature, bottled planets. Characters include the likes of standard favorites such as Superman and Wonder Woman, alongside outsiders like Condiment King, Mister Mxyzptlk and Polka-Dot Man. It features a rather staggering 150 DC Comics characters, which should satiate the appetites of even the most hardcore DC fans. TT Games’ LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is nothing if not complete.
